PIRATE Summit

About the event

PIRATE Summit was a founder conference in Cologne, Germany, first held in 2010 and run for more than a decade, largely as a bootstrapped side project. It grew into a yearly gathering of about 1,200 startup founders at the Odonien venue and was known for its informal atmosphere, house rules and an emphasis on honest conversation and personal connections rather than polished stage content. Around the main event, the organizers ran up to 60 pitch competitions a year in cities such as Cluj, Cairo, Baku, Tokyo and San Francisco, and built an ambassador network that brought participants from many countries.

The series has ended. In a farewell letter dated October 2023, the founder explains that no new steward was found and that the summit will not continue. The website now serves mainly as an archive of memories. A smaller spin-off, PIRATE Night, took place on 24 June 2026 at Odonien in Cologne as a one-night gathering for founders, investors, creators and connectors; it is not a continuation of the summit, and that date has already passed.

The program was general startup and entrepreneurship content, not focused on mobile apps, subscriptions or app acquisitions. For app founders it was mainly a community and networking event, and there is currently no upcoming summit edition at which to meet app buyers or investors.

Who should attend

This entry is mainly useful as background: the summit no longer runs, so there is no upcoming edition to attend. It suited early-stage founders looking for informal peer exchange and connections across the European startup scene, rather than app-specific learning or deal flow.
